Doing business is so much similar to building a relationship with other people.

In fact, a business is held up by transaction primarily and a transaction is perhaps one of the most common forms of interaction among people. Brands, new or old, need to be able to earn trust from their customers in order that they can survive for decades—centuries, if possible. You need to develop a strong brand first to be able to gain trust from your audience. So, how do you do this? First thing first, if you thought it was easy to properly develop your brand, you need to ditch that.

Now, as we’ve established previously, a business relationship is much like a personal one. So, you should never lie to your customers the way you shouldn’t to your friends. Tell everything to your customers as it is. Don’t sugarcoat, don’t exaggerate, and don’t make promises you can’t keep. Whatever lies you tell to your customers and whatever the reasoning behind it, you should never ever deceive your customers. The way you market your business must be clean and honest. Remember, once they know you lie, it would be only a matter of time before they tell others and words travel faster than light.

Build a bridge connecting your startup with your customers. Communicate as openly as you can. Let them know that you are open to anything from complaints to suggestions and inputs to criticisms. Lastly, you need to keep in mind that as a new player, you must stand against the old ones. If your products didn’t offer the kind of values that set them apart from others, you risk turning them away in the end. Get influencers to talk about your products’ different strong factors to build a loyal fan base in the process.
